CCR Q1
How do your products represent social groups or issues?
In an era where the media constantly promotes inaccurate
perceptions of women, we made the choice to create a music video that challenges
the status quo. We selected "One Kiss" by dua lipa as our song
because, in addition to its unique visual aesthetic, the lyrics advocate for a
more bolder approach to addressing social groups and issues, especially those
related to gender norms and expectations about women in the media. When women
deviate from these expectations and express their confidence or desires for
romantic relations, they are often met with criticism and judgment, labeled as
too forward or perceived as transgressing functional norms.
This response is a
result of patriarchal norms and double standards set in the community that
equate femininity with oversexualization . By presenting a woman who exudes
confidence and assertiveness in relationships, it subverts the societal
expectation that women should be modest and pure. This is shown by emphasizing more
on the artist’s skills beyond appearance like singing, dancing and expressions to
avoid reducing her to a one dimensional object for the male gaze. We chose
costumes and visual elements that respects the artist's autonomy and showing her
in an empowering way. By doing so, we aimed to transcend the narrow portrayal
of women often seen in mainstream media, portraying them as fully realized
individuals with agency and independence.
we used symbolic imagery and visual metaphors to display our
message for example the scene where the artist lies confidently on the table,
unaffected by the frozen figures around her, represent the rigid societal norms
and expectations imposed on women that immobilize them. The frozen figures show
the internalized voices of societal judgment while the artist’s bold
performance represents her conscious assertion of selfhood and desire for
dominance.
